Those interested in classical musicals in Melbourne CBD may wish to see classically trained British singer, Sarah Brightman, taking on the role of Norma Desmond in the production of a much-loved stage show.
Based on the Billy Wilder film, the musical Sunset Boulevard has a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.
The plot centres around the jaded one-time star Norma Desmond, living on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. When Desmond crosses paths with young screenwriter Joe Gillis, she sees him as a vehicle, enabling her to make her triumphant return to the big screen.
The musical was first aired in London in 1993 and has subsequently toured internationally. Sarah Brightman is the biggest selling soprano singer in the world, and as such, will be a big draw to the current production for both classical and musical theatre fans.
