Saving the planet by making do and mending
Those with environmental concerns in the Greensborough area will most likely wish to make use of the Repair Café in November.
The Repair Café enables local residents to bring along all sorts of appliances, furniture, clothing, IT equipment and similar items to be looked at by volunteers offering their expertise to help get things mended and ready for a new lease of life. This is a great neighbourhood initiative, born from community spirit and also helping to keep items from landfill. In addition, it is a great opportunity for people to come together to learn new skills.
The Greensborough Christian Book Centre sits at the heart of the Greensborough shopping centre, providing books, community spirit, hospitality and practical help for those in need. It is an ideal venue for the Repair Café, which is an international movement aiming to reduce overconsumption and waste and thus be part of a circular economy. This model is one where the main focus is eliminating waste and pollution by keeping products in use, in tandem with regenerating natural systems.
Local events often attract people in the area by using local print shops to produce advertising material.
The Greensborough Repair Café is taking place on Sunday 19th November at the Greensborough Christian Book Centre at 14 Church Street, Greensborough, Victoria 3088. Time slots are free but need to be booked in advance. Fifteen-minute slots are bookable.
