New sports centre nears completion

Work on the redevelopment of the Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre in Greensborough is nearing completion.

The value of the project is $16.5 million. Work began on the new centre in September 2020, with completion set for the first quarter of 2022. It will include some demolition work to allow for the construction of four new indoor netball and basketball courts, which can also cater for volleyball and badminton. There will be a new double story administration block with new offices, a kiosk, cafe and refurbished change rooms and toilets.

Funding for the project came from Nillumbick Shire Council's $6 million contribution, along with $8 million from Sport and Recreation Victoria and $2.5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund managed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

The project is the second-most-significant capital works project completed in the shire, according to Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan. Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre was built in 1976 and has been long overdue for an upgrade to bring accessibility and building compliance up to an acceptable standard and to allow those with a disability to have easy access to the facilities.

Sporting clubs and community groups often find products offered by printing services invaluable in promoting participation.

The council is planning for an opening ceremony early this year. Anyone interested can view project updates and plans online.
