What's Happening in Greensborough, VIC…

New multi-purpose library now open

The long-awaited reopening of the Diamond Valley Library in Greensborough has finally arrived.

Local dignitaries attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month, with Eltham MP Vicki Ward cutting the ribbon on behalf of the Minister for Local Government. In a statement, Nillumbik Mayor Frances Eyre said that venues like libraries are vital in these Covid-affected times, and she thanked the State Government for their financial support of the redevelopment.

The library's redevelopment at the cost of $1.63 million has transformed the building from its 1980s fit-out to a modern and inviting space. The library provides a place where locals can work, study and connect with others.

Funding for the $1.63 million upgrade costs came from a $500,000 contribution from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, $995,000 from Nillumbik Council and $175,000 from Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL).

The redevelopment includes a community meeting room and kitchen facilities, co-working areas for small businesses, meeting pods, improved accessibility throughout the building and updates to the outdoor deck and community garden. The library aims to be much more than a place to borrow books, focusing on community connection and offering workspaces for micro-businesses and students. Libraries and community spaces such as this often choose to maximise the flow of information to community members with well-designed poster printing.

Community members can obtain opening hours and further information on the Diamond Valley Library by visiting the Yarra Plenty Regional Library website.
