The tribute band, Hot August Night, takes its name from Diamond’s iconic performance in August 1972 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, which was recorded with full surround sound and put out as a live double album. Critics have claimed it be his best work, stating it is:
“The ultimate Neil Diamond record…Diamond the icon in full glory.”
The album was remastered in 2000, much to the delight of Australian fans who, at the time, were reportedly the largest group of devotees in the world, and saw to it that the album stayed at number one for more than half a year.
Hot August Night consists of five musicians who have been playing together for over twenty years. They have an accomplished sound and, led by Matt Eldridge, are able to conjure up the feel and ambience of that night in 1972, amply supported by poster printing within the community.
The Ultimate Neil Diamond Experience – Hot August Night takes place on Friday 9 February, at Greensborough RSL, 111 Main Street, Greensborough VIC 3088. The tickets cost $67.90, to include a two-course dinner. The show starts at 8.30pm.
