Sponsored by Barbara van Ernst, with sound systems and operations provided by Ron Brown, the Jazz Series this year has incorporated both established and emerging talent.
The Syncopators group is celebrating its 40th anniversary, having been formed in 1984 by Chris Ludowyk, originally as the Society Syncopators. The members have versatile musical skills, playing a multitude of instruments within the band. Traditional jazz is the root of the group, but there’s also a huge diversity containing plenty of rhythm and blues.
Touring extensively, including 18 European tours, The Syncopators has also played in the famous Spiegeltent, and in 2018, the group performed the Louis and Ella Show.
With superb musicianship, a sense of humour and great stage presence, the members are regarded by some as leaders in their field. John Crichton, the past president of the Victorian Jazz Club, describes the group as:
“…the best front line in Australian jazz.”
