Chance to tour a material recovery facility

Greensborough’s local council, the Banyule Council, is offering its community a virtual tour of a material recovery facility (MRF) in November as part of a World Environment Day initiative.

During the virtual tour, participants will be given a presentation on the techniques used by a MRF to divide used Packaging into the different material types. This then prepares the Packaging for reprocessing. The tour will involve watching an MRF carry out its tasks via a number of conveyor belts, machines that are specific to certain materials, sorters of a manual type and large trommels that will be used to separate used Packaging. On a daily basis, the MRF separates around 340 tonnes of Packaging that is both mixed and used.

Participants will walk away from the virtual tour with knowledge on what they should and should not do when it comes to recycling, and the reason behind why plastic bottles should always be disposed of with their lids on. Events like this can be promoted to a wider target audience via poster printing.

The free virtual tours will take place on Wednesday, 10th November 2021 during two time slots. The first session will run from 10am to 11.15am, with the latter session running from 7pm to 8.15pm. Participants will be sent a Zoom link one day prior to the event.
