A new community hub incorporating a relocated neighbourhood centre has opened its doors, for the benefit of residents and local groups within the City of Greater Geelong, Victoria.
The $1.5 million project saw the former Surfside Kinder in Ocean Grove redeveloped to provide the local community with a modern, multipurpose building.
The Ocean Grove Community Hub was officially opened by Mayor Darryn Lyons recently, who described the centre as a terrific community facility.
He said the neighbourhood centre had outgrown its previous premises and the extra space now available in the new location was a big bonus.
Mayor Lyons said community hub's location in John Dory Drive was ideal, as it had substantial links with services already operating in the Shell Road Precinct.
The economy, he said, also stands to win with an estimated injection of over $5 million into the local coffers and the creation of jobs for up to 32 ongoing positions.
A community kitchen, dedicated computer room, multipurpose programme room and meeting spaces are on offer at the new hub.
Ocean Grove representative Cr Jan Farrell said the new facility provided a much-needed community space that could be hired out to local groups.
