Mayor of Glen Eira Margaret Esakoff said YAC members will fill an important role as a formal advisory group to the council, providing advice and feedback relating to council policies and plans and ensuring that the younger perspective on issues is considered.
The mayor said the council has a commitment to ensuring younger community members have an opportunity to engage and take part in civic issues and decisions, and she added:
“It’s important to hear the voices of a diverse range of young people in Glen Eira and I encourage all young people to apply, including culturally and linguistically diverse, LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and young people with disabilities.”
Committees such as YAC have also provided a great opportunity for young people to network and gather the Business Cards of others within the community, who may be future mentors.
In-person meetings at a venue or, if necessary, online meetings via Zoom will be required by YAC members, with each expected to commit to their attendance at up to five meetings throughout the year.
Young people aged between 12 and 25 who study, work or live in Glen Eira City and have shown a keen interest in the local community are urged to apply to be on the committee by May 28.
