Literary lovers and storytelling fans are in for an interesting fortnight this month, as the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival takes place.
The festival starts on Monday with an open evening at Rippon Lea House that includes a first look at the archive costume exhibition.
The exhibition, which runs for the duration of the festival, features a number of costumes used in ABC television programmes.
Caulfield residents will be able to enjoy a number of events at the Glen Eira Town Hall, including a performance by The Sound of Silent, a group that recreates the silent movie era of the 1920s and 30s. This will take place on Sunday June 23rd
On Tuesday June 18th, also at the Town Hall, former sales assistant and marketing manager Toni Jordan talks about how she launched her career as a novelist, while on Wednesday June 19th, producers of the television series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries talk about adapting novels for television.
Other events include exhibitions, a comic market, book launches, reading groups, and several open mic sessions, where budding storytellers can try out their work on a willing audience. Children are also catered for with story times at the city’s libraries.
Anyone inspired to create their own novel or poetry after hearing some of the other speakers, could think about asking a local printing company to help them see their works in Print.
The festival runs from Monday June 17th to Sunday June 30th. For more information and for tickets, visit the Glen Eira Council website.
