This week is the last chance for Caulfield residents to see a major exhibition by Australian artist Stephen Haley.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Somewhere About Now’, is being staged by the Glen Eira Council and is on show at the council’s art gallery.
It includes work by Haley from the past six years, collected from public galleries, museums, and private collections in Australia, alongside a collection of new work, which is being shown for the first time at this exhibition. The new pieces include a series of photographs produced using lightjet process - a technique used by some printing companies to produce high-quality photographic prints.
Also on show are a large scale video projection and a retro-reflective wall drawing. The council had to modify the art gallery in order to cater for the 3D video projection.
The Caulfield show explores urban landscapes and the concepts of space and time, with the photographs depicting a number of different spaces, such as hotel rooms and a shopping mall.
Haley began experimenting with digital art and virtual spaces more than two decades ago and has developed his work alongside technological advances. He has produced 16 solo exhibitions and has been featured in a number of group shows, while his work hangs in private collections around the world. As well as being a renowned artist, Haley also lectures at the Victorian College of Arts.
The exhibition at the Council art gallery on the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads runs until this Sunday, October 28.
