Parents and caregivers from Caulfield and surrounding suburbs have the opportunity to attend a potentially life-saving workshop hosted by the Glen Eira City Council.
The paediatric first aid and resuscitation course is a two-hour session aimed at equipping parents and caregivers with the knowledge to confidently administer care for children should an emergency arise. According to the Australian Red Cross, most injuries occur within the home and Australia’s rates of first-aid training are among the lowest in the world. Under 5% of Australians are trained in how to respond to an emergency situation.
The course has been developed in association with Emergcare and The Royal Children’s Hospital Safety Centre. Trained ambulance paramedics facilitate the course, providing practical real-life situations and answering any questions participants may have. As first responders, parents will develop confidence and understanding as to what course of treatment to provide whilst awaiting the arrival of emergency services.
The material covered in this course includes caring for an unconscious child, helping a child that is choking, dealing with febrile convulsions, knowing how to call an ambulance and resuscitation techniques for a child and infant.
Workshops such as this may advertise courses through the use of flyer printing to notify participants of upcoming events.
The paediatric first-aid and resuscitation course will take place on Wednesday 19th August from 7pm-9pm at the Glen Eira Townhall in the Caulfield Cup Room. Tickets are $50 and bookings can be made online.
