Those living in and near Caulfield might be intrigued by an exhibition showcasing the work of Harlinah Teoh.
Harlinah Teoh is a local artist who specialises in ceramics. She began creating this type of art in 2019, and in 2023 was a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize - which is the first year she began exhibiting. The exhibition in Caulfield is Teoh’s second solo exhibition.
The display at the gallery is representative of the plants from the south and south-eastern area of Melbourne, also known as the Sandbelt: aptly named due to its sandy soil, which sometimes reaches a depth of 80 metres.
Teoh is a keen hiker, and inspiration was drawn directly from walks in the area, reflecting on biodiversity and ecosystems. Images of flora are also combined with the presence of folk art and mythology, presenting stoneware vessels that are functional and sculptural in form. Pieces reflect the natural environment, and are decorated using underglaze, slips, sgraffito and carving.
Galleries displaying works of art may use local Print shops to create the informative textual descriptions that accompany each piece.
The Harlinah Teoh – Sandbelt exhibition is taking place until 24 August at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, which can be found on the corner of the Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads in Caulfield. Opening hours are 10 am until 5 pm on weekdays, and 1 pm until 5 pm at the weekends.Get a Free Quote for Print
