The new sports ground at Aspendale Gardens hosts two ovals for cricket, four pitches for soccer, as well as nets and a dozen lighting poles. Changing rooms and toilets to meet demand from women's sports are provided in a modern pavilion.
Inclusivity is a key component of the design, which also includes accessible toilets and ramps, a viewing deck that is elevated as well as hearing augmentation being included among the features designated for all-abilities.
A City of Kingston spokesperson said a great deal of community input helped to create the modern facility.
"We worked closely with Aspendale Gardens Residents Association, Aspendale Stingrays Soccer Club and residents - to balance the needs of everyone."
Flyer printing campaigns have often been rolled out to alert local sports enthusiasts about important competitions being held at the venue, which is home base for Aspendale Stingrays.
He said to help increase informal play and passive recreation areas, cycling and walking paths had been built together with significant improvements to landscaping and a new carpark which doubles as a drop-off and pick-up are for primary school students.
The project was made possible through a funding partnership between Kingston City Council, who invested $4.6 million, and the State Government who contributed $4.5m.
