Braeside to host environmental initiative

Supporters of the environment in the Braeside area can soon join like-minded community members and help in an inclusive tree-planting project.

The World Environment Tree Planting Day is an activity that takes place as part of World Environment Day. Those interested can join in by planting a shrub, tree or grass. All planting will help to combat climate change, promote biodiversity, bolster the creation of habitats and form a better connection with nature, which in turn helps all of Earth’s inhabitants.

This year’s theme for World Environment Day is Beat Plastic Pollution, helping to highlight how the Earth’s stability and health can be improved by substantive planting, not just in Australia but around the world.

The event taking place is overseen in part by the Friends of Braeside Park, a local volunteer community group that exists to help and support staff at the park. This year, the Friends will be also involved with water quality testing, seed collection, bird counting and the propagation of plants.

Community groups often use local printing services in order to produce newsletters that can be distributed among members.

The World Environment Tree Planting Day will be taking place on Sunday, 7 June from 9 am until midday. The venue is the Visitor Information Centre, Cypress Drive, Braeside. Participants should register beforehand and wear suitable clothing, including gloves.
