Historic air museum near Braeside set for major upgrade

Moorabbin Air Museum is looking forward to an exciting makeover as it prepares for extension work to commence soon.

The museum has acquired leasing rights for the land opposite its current site, which will increase the total land area by 50% to 1200 sqm. The building planned for the new land will house the Civilian Collection Gallery. Further renovations will be made to the existing building over time, and plans are in place for a research centre and library. Members of the museum are looking forward to being able to house the entire collection undercover.

Money is currently being raised for these renovations. To aid this fundraising effort, the museum may use flyer printing services to let the local community and residents of nearby Braeside know of the upgrade.

Moorabbin Air Museum opened in 1962 and houses the largest collection of Australian-built aircraft in the south-east, along with numerous artefacts from Australia’s aviation history. The museum is run by volunteers, who also restore the aircraft when necessary, and welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year.

The museum is open Monday to Friday from 10am-4pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-5pm. It is located at 12 First Street, Moorabbin Airport. Adult entry fee is $10, and children can enter for $5 each. Family and concession tickets are also available.
