Bayswater workshop encourages gardening enthusiasts

Bayswater residents who enjoy gardening may want to join an informative workshop where they can learn to grow local wildflowers in pots.

There is no reason why wildflowers should not be grown in plants, like other more conventionally regarded plants. Wildflowers are generally native to an area and can make particularly lovely and relatively cheap displays, for any size of outdoor space, be it a lawned area, patio or window box.

At the end of March, local plant enthusiasts Mike and Rachel Green will be running an interactive workshop and helping those attending to make the right choice of pot, as well as guiding people on where the plants can be obtained from and the best location once the pots are planted up. There will also be tips on best watering and wicking practice, propagating, fertilising and learning to manage slugs.

Although the Greens only have a small garden, with over 190 pots, their space is colourful and achievable with a little know-how and instruction. A carefully considered space also attracts insects and birds, as an added bonus.

Information sessions often lend themselves to factual leaflets, which may be produced by local Print shops.

How to Grow Beautiful Local Wildflowers in Pots is taking place on Saturday, March 28, from 10am until midday. The venue is the Enviro House, 125 King William Street in Bayswater. A ticket to attend costs $10.
