Those living in the Adelaide area can take advantage of the month-long South Australian Living Arts Festival (SALA) exhibition during August. There will be a diverse range of artists and work, so there will likely be something to appeal to everyone.
The SALA Festival began in 1998 as a means of showcasing the work of artists of South Australia. All visual artists working in any medium, and at any level, are welcome to exhibit. It used to run for one week only, while now the festival takes place throughout August, with over 9,000 artists getting involved. Their work is displayed in more than 600 diverse spaces, including parks, wineries, cafes and schools, as well as more traditional galleries.
Visitors to art spaces may encounter new and emerging artists, with talks, workshops and demonstrations in which to be involved. Art Forms will include sculptures, drawing, painting, ceramics, glass, textiles, photography, moving images and many more besides. They will also be able to see the work of SALA Feature Artist, Sue Kneebone. She refers to her work as ‘Feral Aussie Gothic’, examples of which will adorn the SALA printed program and advertising Posters.
