This year the exhibition is entitled Yield Strength and showcases images of how us, society and the environment are transformed by pressure and how far the artists can push their work and the materials they use.
Twenty-four artists are included this year, including Nathan Beard, Kirtika Kain and Archie Moore. Sculpture is at the fore and visitors will see a roadkill cat preserved in resin by George Egerton-Warburton, copper sheets submerged in acid by Kirtika Kain and oversized cattle by Jennifer Mathews.
The curator, Ellie Buttrose, has said:
“The 2026 Adelaide Biennial foregrounds how bodily experience and intellectual wonder are intimately entwined in the experience of art.”
The works are scattered intentionally between the three spaces but are united as a whole with attendees invited to think a little harder about the juxtaposition of pieces and contemplation of the work that has gone into them.
Gallery spaces are often prime candidates for labelling and text boards, often printed in local Print shops.
The 2026 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Yield Strength is taking place from now until 8th June at the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Adelaide Botanic Garden and the Samstag Museum of Art. Entry is free.
