Two-wheeled fans in the Adelaide area will no doubt be looking forward to January 2026, when Australia’s greatest cycling race is set to pass through the location.
The Santos Tour Down Under is regarded as one of the most popular bike races to grace the southern hemisphere. Local rider Stuart O’Grady was the first winner of the 1999 inaugural competition, and the race has only grown in popularity since.
It is now the opening event of the UCI World Tour and involves both male and female teams. The UCI is the international governing agency for cycling, founded in 1900 in Paris.
Keen cyclists can now sign up for the Adelaide Epic Ride, which takes in a part of the UCI World Tour on the same day as the professionals. This ride finishes in Nairne, but starts in either Henley Beach, Flagstaff Hill or Meadows, depending on the length and difficulty of the ride chosen.
