Modified Zumba classes to be taught in Richlands
Active older people in the Richlands area might be grateful to sign up for a slower-paced Zumba class that is happening especially for them.
Zumba has been popular since its inception in 2001 by choreographer Beto Perez. It is a fusion of Latin-inspired dance and cardio work, with rhythms that recall reggaeton, salsa, cumbia and merengue, and all based around sixteen core steps.
Zumba is popular all over the world with around fifteen million people taking classes on a weekly basis. It is a total workout for the body and can be modified to be accessible for all, including children. A study from 2012 recorded that an hour-long session can burn between 300 and 900 calories per hour, depending on intensity and exertion.
At the Zumba Gold session in Richlands, the original moves are modified with a lower intensity, focusing on co-ordination, range of motion and balance. The experienced Jessie Randle will be the instructor, having been a coach since 2017.
Fitness events within the community are often advertised by means of local printing services.
Zumba Gold is being taught at the C J Greenfield Community Hall in Richlands on Tuesday 13th May, from 10.30am until 11.30 am. This is a free event for older people, but booking is essential. The meeting point is outside the hall.
