Work begins on Queens Wharf to South Bank pedestrian bridge

Milton residents are on the doorstep of a new pedestrian bridge that, when completed, will connect two iconic destinations in Brisbane.

Work has begun on the Neville Bonner Bridge, which will form part of the Destination Brisbane Consortium's transformation of Queen's Wharf Brisbane and links the planned $3.6 billion development to South Bank, which sits on the opposite side of Brisbane River.

Simon Crooks, Project Director for the Consortium said it has been a decade since the last bridge was constructed in Brisbane adding:

“The Neville Bonner Bridge will span 320-metres over the Brisbane River from the retail and restaurant level of the integrated resort development to the area in front of the Wheel of Brisbane at South Bank.”

He said that in addition to its stunning architectural appeal, the bridge will also connect the integrated resort's luxury residences and hotels directly to Brisbane's cultural and entertainment precincts including one of its most popular attractions, South Bank.

Brochure printing to promote tourism in the city has often included South Bank and Crooks predicts Queen's Wharf will become the newest of Brisbane's tourist attractions.

The new bridge, a Fitzgerald Constructions Australia project, will feature a cable-stayed design with the mast at its tip reaching 75 metres.

The bridge is due to be opened in conjunction with the completed integrated Queen's Wharf Brisbane resort, which is expected in late 2022.
