Tunnelling event to be held for engineers

A special technical session on tunnelling will be held this June for both young and experienced engineers.

On the day, two talks will be presented. Alena Conrads, who works for the tunnelling division at Wayss & Freytag, will talk about how to schedule maintenance for cutting tools in soft ground mechanised tunnelling while accounting for the unknown in prediction of wear. The second presentation will be hosted by Jiwoo Ahn and will be on the topic of numerical modelling of the Sharaan Desert Resort. Both Conrads and Ahn are involved in the Cross River Rails Project.

The event is targeted towards Australian Tunnelling Society (ATS) members, but non-members, students and non-students can also attend the event. Attendees can network during the event and can enjoy drinks at a local pub afterwards. Business card printing is useful at events with networking opportunities like this. For those who are unable to attend in person, the information session will be livestreamed online.

The venue for the event is Level 9 in the Engineers Australia building, which is located on 340 Adelaide Street, a short distance from Milton. The cost for attendance is free for students and ATS members, whereas non-members who are not students will have to pay $30. Registrations for the session can be made online on the Engineers Australia website.

The Young Members Technical Session will run for 120 minutes on June 10th, starting at 5.30pm.
