Springboks coming to Suncorp

The next international rugby match to be held at Suncorp Stadium in Milton will be Australia versus South Africa on Saturday 8th September in this year’s Rugby Championship. Having played out two drawn matches for the Mandela Challenge Plate in 2017 both teams will be keen to break the deadlock and no doubt the Springboks would love to reclaim the trophy which Australia have held since 2015.

The Rugby Championship, is played between the four major rugby union playing nations in the southern hemisphere, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina. It succeeded the Tri Nations tournament when Argentina joined the contest in 2012 and this year it will be held from August 18th to October 6th. Each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams. Last years winners of the championship were New Zealand.

The Mandela Challenge Plate began in 2000 with a single match between Australia and South Africa and was intended to be held every two years as a stand-alone competition. It has since been absorbed into the Rugby Championship and been held annually since 2005. The trophy is a silver plate featuring a springbok and a wallaby on a central gold disk.

Kick off will be at 8pm and the gates will open at 6pm. There will no doubt be plenty of opportunities for fans to purchase Promotional Products and team merchandise.
