Concerns over the loss of a number of parking spaces led to the redesign of stage five of the North Brisbane Bikeway.
The original two-way track and road plan was to have the cycle path travel north along Dickson Street and Kent Road between Clayfield and Lutwyche, but this would have necessitated the removal of around 100 car parking spaces in the area. The proposed alternative will instead be directed west at Chalk Street and connect to the Kedron Brook Bikeway. The new plan will only affect six parking spaces.
Chairman of the Public and Active Transport group, Adrian Schrinner, told the Courier Mail that the new plans would present a significantly reduced cost to build as well as alleviate local worries about parking. He said:
“It was mainly the parking loss that was the concern both for residents and businesses.”
He added that the new proposal will link Lutwyche Bus Station and Lutwyche Centro. Advertising on inner city cycle routes is often created with help from poster printing services. Brisbane City Council is to be responsible for construction of the fifth stage of the route, with the Queensland State Government having already completed the first four sections.
