Milton, Queensland, is an inner city suburb located just 2km west of the Brisbane Central Business District. Its history of European settlement dates back to the 1840s when farming and grazing were the main activities in the area. Today, Milton enjoys a mix of commercial offices, warehouses, retail, light industry and residential. Many businesses including Print companies in Milton complement each other with the services they provide. Here at Minuteman Press we work with business owners to help them achieve their Print marketing goals.
Milton has been a vital transport link for city travellers. Brisbane’s tramway workshops were based in Boomerang Street from 1927 to 1969. Trams entered from Milton Road. When the tram service halted in 1969, the workshops remained open to service the City’s fleet of buses until 1979 when the complex was moved to Toowong. The Milton operation was demolished and turned into a `Park and Ride’ car park and in the late 1980s the site was sold and a new office development constructed. Early landmarks in the suburb included the Arnotts biscuit factory which was a feature until its demolition in the 1990s when its operations moved to Geebung. The City’s trolley-bus depot also operated in the area between 1951 and 1969 with the site later a part of the redevelopment of Suncorp Stadium.
Early tennis fans enjoyed major tennis tournaments held at the Milton Courts until the 1990s and the suburb is also home to the Castlemaine Perkins brewery.
