National awards put spotlight on top exporters

A company that has previously put its design talents to work at Suncorp Stadium in Milton has won the Australian Exporter of the Year 2019 award.

Based in Queensland, the global design company Populous took the prestigious award amid a strong field of contenders. It also received the Professional Services Award during a presentation night held in Canberra recently.

Minister for Trade and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was full of praise for the company describing its latest achievement as an impressive win. She said that in addition to Suncorp Stadium, the design work of Populous has also been applied to major venues such as New York’s Yankee Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Venues such as these are not only widely known across the world but have also often been featured on brochure printing to promote major events.

During the past 20 years, Populous has grown to become one of the world’s largest architectural companies with exports representing a substantial percentage of the firm’s income.

The Australian Exporter of the Year Awards put the spotlight on many top firms including other winners that operate internationally that have major investments in Queensland, including SPSG Jemena Northern Gas Pipeline (Significant Investment Award) and Mulpha (Regional Investment Award).

According to Palaszczuk, the state’s export sales during the last financial year reached $87 billion.
