More live music for Milton next year
Suncorp Stadium in Milton will host more concerts from next year after the State Government decided to allow more events to take place at the venue.
The change comes after residents in Milton and other nearby suburbs were invited to give their opinion on the changes.
The online survey was conducted over eight weeks, and the results showed the majority of people were in favour of increasing the number of music events from four to six each year.
More than 4,000 people took part in the survey, and around 80 percent either agreed or strongly agreed that more concerts should be staged.
This is the first year the cap has been reached, with rock band The Foo Fighters and boy band One Direction already having put on shows, and singers Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran scheduled for later this year.
The limit meant that the venue missed out on hosting iconic Aussie rockers AC/DC because it had already scheduled the four events when the tour was announced.
The extra events could be a boost for Milton businesses, especially those in hospitality and tourism such as restaurants and accommodation providers who could cash in on the two extra concerts.
Flyer printing could be used to advertise special offers for concert-goers, such as set menus or reduced room rates.
The increased cap will begin from next year.
