Locals to decide on Suncorps musical future

Milton residents have the chance to have their say over whether or not Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium should host more music events in the future.

While the stadium in Milton is known as a sports stadium, Queensland residents are now being asked if they would like to see a greater number of high-profile concerts at the venue.

Currently, the stadium is only able to host four musical acts each year because of concerns over noise. However, following the success of visits by the Foo Fighters and One Direction that met with few complaints, the Queensland Government is considering lifting the restriction.

Queensland Sports Minister Bill Byrne said the more central Suncorp Stadium could be a great venue. He commented:

"There are many advantages to an event venue like this close to the CBD, obviously connections to accommodation and transport, restaurant, retail and everything else. But we are not dictating this in any way, shape or form and frankly what comes out of this program will be what informs the government decision.”

If the venue was to include more concerts, residents could be kept up to date with flyer printing, letting them know when big events were taking place. Poster printing could also be used to advertise the events locally.

The survey is available for completion on the Queensland Government’s website via its Get Involved page. The survey closes on Friday, June 12th.
