Farewell to Irish folk band

Those that appreciate Irish folk music in the Milton area may be keen to buy tickets for the Clannad’s farewell tour in March.

Clannad is one of the best-known and most highly regarded traditional Irish folk bands of all time. Formed over fifty years ago by siblings Ciaran, Pol and Moya Brennan, as well as their uncles Noel and Padraig Duggan, the band has successfully fused traditional Celtic music with new-age, jazz and Gregorian chant. In 1982, the single ‘Theme From “Harry’s Game”’ accompanied a three-part TV series depicting the troubles in Northern Ireland, garnering much acclaim for the bed and resulting in a top-five Irish and UK hit. Through various transitions, with members leaving and re-joining, the band have won a Grammy, a BAFTA, an Ivor Novello and a Billboard Music Award. Ciaran has said of the band:

“There’s a feeling in all our music, an ambience that stems directly from where we were brought up and to have to define our sound, I always say that if they were to visit Gweedore they wouldn’t need to ask.”

Monochrome images adorn the catalogue of Clannad merchandise and music. Such arresting images will often find its way on poster printing, especially for performance events such as this one.

The Clannad Farewell Tour takes place on Saturday, March 18 at the Fortitude Music Hall on Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. Tickets cost from $91.49.
