The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but plans were derailed by the Covid pandemic. Organisers often rely on local printing services for poster printing to spread news of such tournaments amongst local fans.
Stirling Hinchcliffe, the Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister, enthused about the competition in a statement, saying:
“The English Premier League is among global football’s best competitions, bringing two top teams to Queensland demonstrates our reputation as a world-class events destination.”
Steven Gerrard, Manager of Aston Villa FC, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be visiting Australia for the first time in the club’s history and it will be fantastic for Aston Villa to play against two excellent teams in these wonderful Queensland stadiums in front of our eastern Australian fans.”
The tournament will take place from 14th until 20th July, and tickets are priced from $69. The date for the Suncorp Stadium, Milton match is 17th July, when Aston Villa and Leeds will battle for a place in the final.
