Diversity of Brisbanes Asian communities on show at annual festival

The best of Asian culture and art is a yearly focus of attention throughout the City of Brisbane, including Milton, as an upcoming event will celebrate.

Full colour printing of Posters, Signs and Brochures is no doubt being embarked upon as a host of events promote their activities at the free BrisAsia Festival.

According to a Brisbane Council spokesman, the festival’s aim is to promote stronger collaborations and connections between Asia and Brisbane by staging an extensive event programme that spans three weeks.

Major events include the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, which attracts participation from artists in 30 countries and places the work of more than 80 artists on display.

The event, according to the spokesman, includes artist talks, workshops and live performances, and also reflects the region’s creative diversity to festival visitors.

In a unique display by artist Pamela Mei-Leng See, a captivating light projection using a contemporary style of paper cutting will light up the William Jolly Bridge from February 5 to 12.

Activities, including the self-defence techniques of karate and the gentle flowing exercises of tai chi qigong, will be available for participation by festival attendees.

The extensive programme also includes a Vietnamese New Year Festival, the art of cosplay and Asian pop culture, Chinese lion dancing, Chinese drumming and a World Wetlands Day discovery walk.

The celebration gets underway this Friday, February 5, and continues until February 28.
