Chance to get creative with clay in Milton
Green-fingered creatives in the Milton area may be keen to sign up for a pottery class to make plant pots and vases.
Ruth Elliott, a keen potter, runs the classes, where students each use a kilogram of natural-coloured clay to make a variety of pots and vases using different techniques such as slab, coil and pinch.
Elliott has long been interested in clay and studied ceramic courses at the Brisbane Institute of Art from 2016 to 2018. Currently, she is studying for a degree in Fine Arts and Visual Culture. Elliott has an interest in wild clay, which is clay derived from the environment in areas such as around riverbeds and on construction sites, as a result of earth exposed by the excavating machinery. She works out of her home studio, called The Gap, within which she produces homeware that is sold across the country in independent shops.
Due to the artistic nature of classes like this, participants may be drawn to them by the use of striking graphic design on flyers that are distributed locally.
Round 2 – Ruth Elliott’s Potting Delight takes place on Saturday, October 8 from 3pm until 5pm at The Plant Bunker on Crombie Street, Milton, QLD 4064. Tickets cost $71.06. The event is suitable for ages eight and above, and novices are welcome. Guests are advised to bring their own drinks and snacks. Pots are fired and ready for collection in two to three weeks after creation.
