Queensland students will have two opportunities to take the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) during April.
The STAT is an aptitude test for students looking to enter tertiary education. The test has different versions but Queensland uses a multiple-choice exam that lasts two hours. The STAT is designed to demonstrate a student’s ability to understand, process and analyse information presented in a variety of ways such as tables, graphs, diagrams, cartoons and poems. Tertiary institutions use the results of the STAT to guide decisions about offering a candidate a place.
Candidates with few formal qualifications can take the STAT test to demonstrate their ability to tackle a tertiary course. The STAT is not used to assess students currently studying in year 12 and not all institutions accept STAT results. Before sitting the exam, candidates should check with the institution to which they intend to apply to see if it is worthwhile completing the test. Each student may only sit the test once a year.
Applicants must bring photo ID plus pencils, sharpener, eraser and water bottle. Educational institutions may use Stationery printers to prepare exam papers.
The STAT will be held at Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, Level 2, 11 Little Cribb St, Milton on Wednesday April 10th at 1.30pm and Saturday April 13th at 8.30am and 12.30pm. The cost is $165 which is not refundable.
