Brisbane residents urged to get on their bikes for charity

Everyone from keen cyclists to casual riders can help raise money for a cancer charity in Brisbane next month.

Cycle for Life offers people the chance to enjoy a 10-kilometre ride around South Brisbane, raising money for Cancer Council Queensland at the same time.

The Council works to improve research into cancer treatment and prevention, as well as providing support for people dealing with the illness, such as free counselling services.

The Cycle for Life route begins and ends in Musgrave Park, and follows a course around the city’s cycleways. It is suitable for all levels of fitness.

Bikes and helmets are being provided by CityCycle, a scheme that offers bikes for hire around central Brisbane. It is hoped the event will also encourage more people to use the bikes to get around the city rather than driving.

Cyclists from Milton can enter individually or as a team, and are encouraged to raise as much money as possible to stand a chance of winning prizes, including travel vouchers and an iPad. Poster printing is a great way to advertise a fundraising campaign, especially for work colleagues thinking of entering as a team and looking for sponsors from their workplace. Prizes will also be awarded to the best-dressed riders.

The ride takes place on Sunday, September 14th and begins at 7am. To register, visit the Cycle for Life website.
