Brisbane hosts heat of Boulderfest competition

The second round of the 10th annual Boulderfest competition will be held in Queensland in early August, with over $25,000 up for grabs in cash and prizes.

For city-dwellers who love rock-climbing, bouldering on artificial climbing walls is probably the next best thing. The sport developed from mountaineering training as it helps to increase finger strength and build stamina. Bouldering is done without any ropes or harness and usually over climbs of under six metres. It allows climbers to practice specific manoeuvres and develop skills in a relatively safe environment. Bouldering problems can be vertical or horizontal.

Competition session times will start from 6:00 am each day and the finals will be held on Sunday afternoon; isolation for competitors is from 3:30 pm, and viewing from 5:30 pm. As well as the competitive sessions there will be a social session open to climbers of all abilities. Volunteers are needed to help in many roles to ensure that the event runs smoothly and efficiently.

Events such as this often have Promotional Products and each competitor will receive a shirt.

The competition will be held on the weekend of August 3 and 4 at Urban Climb, 17 Roy St, Milton. Tickets are $60 each and have already sold out for some classes, so those wishing to compete are advised to get in quick. Ticketing is online through Eventbrite.
