Geebung to host historical talk

A talk about documenting Australians in service during World War II is being held in Geebung this year.

History buffs in Geebung are being invited to attend this informative talk, which will be running in the suburb this autumn. Presented by the Queensland Family History Society, the event is called “Stories of Service – Australians in the Second World War”.

Eve Terry from the National Archives of Australia (NAA) in Brisbane will be speaking about a collection held by the archives that contains more than a million records that document the service of Australians during World War II.

Institutions and organisations managing historical documents sometimes connect with expert printing services for high-resolution Copies for the public to handle and view, so that original materials remain safeguarded.

The inclusive spoken-word event offers both in-person and online participation using Zoom. Terry will talk about the records detailing the service of men and women from Australia. The documents include service records for the Royal Australian Air Force, the Army and the Royal Australian Navy.

In 2025, the NAA finished a five-year assignment to digitalise its collection of service records from WWII, making over one million files viewable online.

The Stories of Service event will now take place at the Queensland Family History Society on Wednesday, April 15. The event has a start time of 1 pm and will run until 3 pm. The venue is located at 46 Delaware Street in Geebung.
