A published author is giving a talk about colonial doctors and asylums in Queensland at a respected institution in Geebung.
Residents interested in learning about Queensland’s medical past can attend this lecture, which will be arriving in the suburb this winter. Titled “Dangerous to Know”, the upcoming event is led by writer Duncan Richardson, who will talk about his brand-new book centred on early colonial doctors working in Queensland’s asylums.
Authors, their agents and publishing houses often depend on high-quality professional printing services for bound Copies of manuscripts and early proofs.
The lecture will delve into mid-19th century medicine in the Sunshine State when treatments ranged from leeches to early anaesthetics, but treating mental illness correctly was still distant. It explores Queensland’s early years, and the multiple mental asylums built within its borders like Woogaroo, Stradbroke Island and Reception House in Springhill.
A former teacher and published children’s author, Richardson has progressed to penning multiple history Books including “Year of Disaster: Brisbane 1864” in 2017, “Captives of the Spanish Lady” in 2019 and “Civilising Brisbane” in 2021.
Dangerous to Know will run at the Queensland Family History Society on Wednesday, July 15. The talk starts at 1 pm and ends at 3 pm. The venue is simple to find at 46 Delaware Street in Geebung, and the event offers free admission to all seeking to attend.Get a Free Quote for Books Get a Free Quote for Copies
