Plans for Ryde's new civic space progressing
Residents from Gladesville and around the City of Ryde will have another chance to comment on plans for the new Civic Hub in the coming weeks, with the second round of the Design Our Ryde competition taking place.
The competition is to design a new building on the site of the current Civic Centre. Plans include space for council staff, indoor areas that could be hired by community groups, and a large open space for public events including a stage and dressing rooms, along with housing, commercial areas and a bus interchange.
Four entries from the original contest have been shortlisted for Round 2 following a public vote and a judging panel.
Printing services have been used to create an exhibition detailing each of these four designs, which be on public show from Monday, July 11 until the beginning of August.
Members of the public will be able to comment on each of the designs and the comments will be taken into consideration by the judging panel when deciding on the winning entry.
Entries were invited from architects across Australia and internationally, and around 170 submissions were made. Three were shortlisted by a judging panel and the fourth, an Australian entry, was decided by a public vote.
Once the final design has been chosen, locals will also have a chance to name the new site.
