NRL announces Hall of Fame nominees and changes

The NRL has announced its player nominees for this year’s induction into the NRL Hall of Fame.

Of the 25 nominees, four will be inducted at the official ceremony held in Sydney on 14th August. Nominees include Steve Renouf of the Brisbane Broncos, Paul Vautin of the Manly Sea Eagles and Paul Sironen of the Balmain Tigers, who began his junior football career with Gladesville Sports and the North Ryde Hawks.

The NRL Hall of Fame was established in 2018 to recognise contributions made to the sport by players, referees and coaches. The 2019 awards have expanded to honour the contribution of media and administrative staff, with one Print journalist, one administrator and one broadcast journalist being included in the inductees.

This recognition of the importance of the media to the sport is in line with NRL’s decision to rebrand the logo of the Telstra Premiership competition at the start of the 2019 season. The new Logo Design was updated to a more modern look that would be more adaptable in digital environments.

The updated design still features the shield and chevron that have been symbols of the brand since the competition formally began in 1908. The new streamlined design also enables clubs to integrate the logo into their own branding more seamlessly. South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly, described the change in direction as a welcome one.
