An opportunity to represent Warringah Council as Youth Ambassadors is being offered to six young people aged 14 to 19.
Enthusiastic teenagers from throughout the Council area, including Brookvale, are urged to apply for what a spokesman described as “an adventure of a lifetime” to its Sister City Brewarrina.
Successful applicants will travel to Brewarrina in the state’s remote northwest to help promote friendships between bush and beach communities as part of Warringah’s Sister City Youth Exchange Programme.
The initiative also provides an opportunity to create a better understanding of the differing issues facing those living in each of the locations.
A council spokesman said the town of Brewarrina had 1,800 residents, including a substantial indigenous population. He added that it was also home to the 40,000-year-old Fish Traps, which are World Heritage listed and feature on many tourism Brochures, Calendars and Holiday Cards.
The Sister Cities Agreement signed in 2000 has paved the way for many exchanges over the years. According to the spokesman previous excursions have included visits to nearby Lightning Ridge, learning about Aboriginal culture and language, how to throw and make boomerangs, swimming at popular hot bore baths, visiting sheep stations and even attending a game of rugby union.
