Sports and community groups urged to apply for grant funding

Cultural, community and sporting groups from Brookvale, and throughout the Warringah Council area are being invited to apply for grants funding, with up to $268,000 available for the 2016-17 financial year.

Warringah Mayor Michael Regan said applications for the grants opened on April 1, and he urged local groups to apply.

The funds, he said, will be forthcoming to assist community, sporting and cultural groups between July 2016 and June 2017 and, in so doing, will contribute to building a stronger environment and community for the future.

The Mayor said many diverse groups within the area had benefited from the grants last year. They included the John Fisher Park netball courts, which received a grant for new lighting, the staging of the Collaroy Beach disability surfing event, and the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Manly-Warringah Choir with a gala concert.

Banner printing is often used to promote some of the major events supported by the grants, which the Mayor hopes will this year attract many new groups and events. He added that there were several grant categories, including $147,000 available for sporting groups with grants to cover up to half the cost of recreation and sports infrastructure, and $121,000 ($5,000 per organisation) available for Community and Cultural Development Grants.
