The exhibition match is being held to raise awareness and support for the 2018 Invictus Games as well as to highlight sport’s power to support rehabilitation, inspire recovery and to generate more respect and understanding for the men and women who have served their country.
Manly MP James Griffin said the clash of skills between two great Rugby teams would not only be a great event to watch but will also be held for a good cause, saying:
“It is a real privilege to be able to welcome the Australian Navy team to the Northern Beaches; to see them take the field against the Marlins will be a great spectacle whilst raising awareness for the upcoming Invictus Games.”
Anthony Bergelin, president of Manly RUFC, said players are excited to be taking part in the match.
Bergelin said it was a real privilege to help bring additional awareness to the Invictus Games by the club’s team participating in the exhibition match. He added he believed it will be looked back upon as an important part of the club’s history.
Funds to aid the Invictus Games will be raised through a gold coin donation at the gate. Poster printing and flag flying are often prolific at sporting events. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm on September 22.
