As the end of the New South Wales Solar Bonus Scheme looms, residents from Brookvale and surrounding areas are being invited to free workshops to learn more about the options available afterwards.
The workshops, a joint venture between the Australian Solar Council and Northern Beaches Council, will be held at the Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club discussing options after the Scheme disappears later this year.
A Northern Beaches Council spokesman said the events will provide some valuable information, including necessary steps to take before the Scheme finishes.
Those attending will need to have note pads at the ready to jot down tips on storage solutions and available battery technologies, as well as the economics associated with solar energy schemes for households.
The spokesman said many people who have been benefiting from payments for feeding electricity generated from their solar systems back into the main electricity grid will be wondering what will happen when the scheme no longer exists.
He said it is likely payments could reduce from between $0.20-$0.60, down to $0.06 per kilowatt hour as a result of the scheme’s closure.
According to the spokesman, the NSW Solar Bonus Scheme was introduced to encourage small businesses and households across the state to install renewable energy systems on a small scale to adequately supply energy demands on site. Any excess electricity was then returned to the grid.
He said a review of energy-use management options will be required by participants once the scheme ends.
