Chance for budding authors to shine in Brookvale

Young writers from Brookvale and throughout the Northern Beaches area are being invited to take part in this year’s writing competition.

The contest is open to all students up to those in Year 12 who attend school within the Northern Beaches Council district and are library members.

The theme of this year’s competition is based on the word Doorway and writers should use the word as the starting point for their story or idea and must include the word as part of their tale.

Submissions will be judged on plot, use of language, characters and originality and prizes will be awarded in six age categories.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Civic Centre on Monday September 19th.

All winners will receive an award, and the best entries will be collected and published in an ebook, which will become part of the local library collection. The young authors could also use a printing company to create hard Copies of their story to keep as a memento or to give to family members.

The Young Writers Competition has been running for seven years and last year there were more than 400 entries.

More details on word counts and entry procedures can be found in the library or on the Northern Beaches Council website. Entries must include an official entry form and close on Wednesday July 27th.
