Spring has arrived, and that means millions of migrating birds are on the move as they head to their northern homes. An upcoming Wauwatosa event will bid them a warm welcome.
The city will be collaborating with the Forest Exploration Center to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day, and it will introduce the public to these long-distance Flyers and the threats they face on their journey. The release for the occasion noted that Wauwatosa is proud to be designated a Bird City Wisconsin, and the festivities will offer lots of chances to explore.
The participants will be led on a 90-minute hike by Mark McNally, who is a lifelong birder. He will share his interest and expertise, and while they go, the group will learn about the dangers posed by light pollution and what they can do to make a difference. Strollers and mobility devices such as walkers and wheelchairs are welcome and there may be accessible parking available.
Hosting events that introduce the public to birding can help them to develop a greater appreciation for the natural world. A poster printing company will be able to offer a variety of ways to promote these activities throughout the local area.
The Forest Discovery Center, which is located at 1800 Forest Exploration Drive, has made plans to welcome registrants for this guided hike at 8:30 am on May 14. It is free to register.
