History
The land that became Wauwatosa was first inhabited by Native Americans, with the first European settler, Charles Hart, arriving in 1835. Seventeen other families followed him that year, and in 1845 Hart built a mill on the Menomonee River. The first settlement was named ‘Hart's Mill’ after this structure.
The actual Town of Wauwatosa was created April 30th, 1840, by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature, with its government set up in 1842. In 1892, part of the town was incorporated as the Village of Wauwatosa, before in 1897 it was finally granted a charter as the City of Wauwatosa. Throughout most of the 19th Century, Wauwatosa was an agricultural community.
The Wauwatosa Historical Society maintains links to the past through its management of two important buildings, the Victorian-style Kneeland-Walker House and the Little Red Store. The Store dates back to 1854, and has served as a railroad depot, post office, general store, and library, among other functions. The Historical Society could work with brochure printers to create Booklets about the city's earliest days.
The 20th Century
In 1952, Wauwatosa annexed what remained of the Town of Wauwatosa, which doubled the community's size. The additional land became home to a number of food distribution and cold-storage operations. In addition, engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton opened an industrial plant there, as did Harley-Davidson, the legendary motorcycle company.
In recent decades, the western part of the city has become an important retail and commercial district, with the Mayfair Mall serving as the anchor for the area.
Both commercial and retail concerns need to have letterhead that is up to date, crisp, and attractive. For this, they can work with local Stationery printers, which are experts at creating professional letterhead. The enterprises will also need calling cards for their employees, and here they can turn to business card printing companies for a great selection and high-quality products.
Points of Interest
Wauwatosa is home to a number of buildings and areas of architectural importance. For example, legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Church of the Annunciation, a Greek Orthodox structure that is now on the National Register of Historic Places. It's one of Wright's last works, and was in fact completed after he died. Church officials might consider working with a flyer printing company on a one-sheet that gives visitors information about the building.
One of Wauwatosa's earliest structures is also still standing. The Robertson Ace Hardware store was built in 1897, and although the business has moved out, the building is still sound, placing it on the National Register. In fact, an entire neighborhood, the Washington Highlands Historic District, which was designed in 1916, is on the list.
Neighbors who live in the heritage area might consider working with a banner printing company on a tasteful design to welcome visitors to the district, and also to tell them of its historic nature.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Booklets
