Study shows growth in Wisconsin's timber industry

According to a newly released national study, Wisconsin's timber sales and the number of people working for the state’s forestry services are on the rise.

The report was conducted by the National Alliance of Forest Owners, and shows that the number of employees in the sector grew by 5% between 2010 and 2016. Timber sales went up by almost 10% in that same period, giving plenty of reasons why more timber-related Business Cards might be seen in the area.

Local towns such as Green Bay have experienced a sharp increase in demand for high-quality wood which is used for furniture and flooring. The director of the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association believes that the spike in demand is also because the forests are maturing now. The older trees are better sources for saw timber.

The state of Wisconsin has about 16 million acres of timberland. Only 30% of that is public land while the rest is privately held by different companies and individuals. The National Alliance of Forest Owners is tasked with bringing all these stakeholders together and helping to create a healthy economy for forest timber so that the land is not cleared and turned into farmland or other Forms of development.

The people who invest in managing forests are aware that forestry is a long-term commitment. They know that investments made today could take up to 40 years to yield returns.
