Jordy Nelson announces retirement

Jordy Nelson, who played for the Green Bay Packers for ten years from 2008-17, recently announced his decision to retire from football.

Nelson joined the Packers when he was chosen during the second round of 2008’s NFL Draft coming from Kansas State. Over the next ten years, he played in 136 games and started 88 of them. Nelson had a successful career that saw him rank third in the number of franchise interceptions (550), second in touchdown receptions (69), and third in 100-yard receiving games. He is also the only player in the team’s annals to record 13-plus touchdown receptions in three separate seasons.

2014 was a particularly good season for him. In that season he set his career-high for touchdown receptions with 98 and brought in a total of 13 touchdowns. He was rewarded for his stellar performance with a selection for the Pro Bowl and the Associated Press named him in the second-team All-Pro. A knee injury kept him out of the 2015 season however he made up for it with a great performance in 2016 and became the first Green Bay Packer to receive the honor of NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

When awards such as these are won by any team from any sport, they are often promoted using banner printing in the grounds.

Nelson’s final games as a professional footballer were played with the Oakland Raiders for one year in 2018. In that season, he played in 15 games, made 63 interceptions for 738 yards, and claimed three touchdowns.
