Art shows adapt to new regulations

Artists in Green Bay are finding innovative ways to showcase their work despite the new regulations.

This year's annual ArtStreet event, held in Green Bay on August 29, was different to most years because of the pandemic. The event is usually held in one location downtown where many people can gather but this year the artists exhibited their creations at 15 different locations. Poster printing is often used for outdoor events.

Melvin McGee is an artist whose work was on display. Speaking to Fox11online.com, he says that he gets his inspiration from several sources, including family, community, and nature.

McGee says having people walk up to his work and break into a smile when they see it motivates him. Most of them were wearing masks so it was difficult to make out their expressions, but the organizers of the event understand the need for caution. The organizers were happy that they were able to showcase their art anyway and the fact that the exhibitions were outside made it safer.

Harry Steinbrecher is one art aficionado who was present. He said:

“I came 100 miles, happened to be into town, and was very happy that this was going on while I was here. I love art and I love people being able to express themselves and share it with other people.”

McGee says 24 of the 25 shows that were on his 2020 agenda have been canceled, but he is still willing to find ways to keep people inspired.
